Sharpen The Axe

                                        

Benjamin Franklin famously kept a strict daily routine. He’d begin each morning by asking himself, “What good will I accomplish today?” He’d then proceed through a set schedule of activities, and end the day with the follow up question, “What good did I accomplish today?"

And in the middle of that day, as he was inventing and helping to, you know, form governments, he would take time out to read.

Every day.

Franklin would take a two-hour lunch break to review his accounts, dine, and read.

Why?

Because even Benjamin Franklin didn’t know everything.

It is only through reading that we can learn more, expand our minds, open our horizons, and, as Dr. Stephen Covey would put it, sharpen the axe.

You see, reading is more than self-education, though that’s an important part of it. Right now you’re reading this email and while we hope to teach you a thing or two, what we are really hoping is that this will get youthinking. That act of thinking will foster creativity and imagination, and get your brain in the habit of analyzing and exploring. You are, in essence, exercising the most important muscle in your body.

Because believe me, there’s nothing more critical to the success of your entrepreneurial endeavors than your own brain.

Yet strangely, this is another area where many fail to step up, and you can get ahead of your competitors.

By setting up a daily routine of reading for yourself, and by making sure that your reading material is highly focused on providing value and relevancy to your business and industry, you can overcome a wide range of obstacles and challenges.
